Three Recommendations for Getting a Job in Computer Science

1. Digital footprint

The very first advice I could give you to get a job in Computer Science is to have a good Digital footprint.
You should search your full name on search engine like DuckDuckGo which sound a little strange but DuckDuckGo doesn't track you like others search engine. This way people won't know that you searched yourself on the internet because searching yourself on the internet sound a bit egocentric.
After you have done your research, you should check if you have a good background or not because having a bad background is very unattractive for an employer and you should try to clean it up a little bit.

Now that your background is cleaned of any unwanted information. You should aim to get an appealing background on the internet. Like they said Technically Speaking in the article Your Personal Brand Online, you should try to get new work on the internet or get something to do related to computer science. You could use a website like Github where you can post a computer related project which people can try and make request and feedback. You can also help other people on this website because some employer check if you have a Github and you can also link your account on your Cv. Employer can check it and they will see that you know what you are doing and have a good idea of how you work based on your work on Github.

2. Social Skills

It is very important to have good social skills because you will have to work in a team in a job related to Computer Science. Nowadays people code in teams of two persons. One guy is coding while the other check any coding errors and gives feedback about his coding. From the article "The Hard Facts about Soft Skills", employers are looking for people who have good speaking competence and organization skill and this is specially true in a job related to Computer Science because you will probably have to work for a client and you will have to ask him questions about what he want and you will have to give him technical information and feedback about the progress of his requests.

3. Be Positive

My third recommendation would be to always be positive. You will probably face many problems while writing a program and not being positive will just hurt you and your future colleague because you work in a team! The "Harnessing the Power of Positive Emotions" gives good information about being positive as if you are positive, it will help you to acquire new relation with people and also with some social competences.
The opposite of positiveness will only give you very wrong emotion and your colleague probably won't like to have you around in the work space and in the end. Being negative will probably only get you fired.
Coming with a smile in a job interview is way better than going in with a sad face because it makes a good first impression!

Little note.

Websites About Computer Science

Hi ! When I attended my first class of computer science, I thought to myself that I would need the help of people who are in my field of study. Classmate come to mind, but when you are in a rush to finish your work you won't be able to ask a classmate. So there it is. I have found three websites that you must know if you are in computer science !

1. OpenClassroom

The first one is called OpenClassroom, which is a website that gives tutorial. You can use it in Spanish, French and English. You can even take online class on this website and you can get an international degree with it. It used to be called Siteduzero because you would learn things on this website from the scratch, but in 2013, the creator wanted to be more international and siteduzero is not a good name for an international website. OpenClassroom is way more open-minded than siteduzero Openclassroom was created by Mathieu Nebra in 1999, his idea was to create a website which would give a tutorial for novice.
He was 13 years old. In 2015 is the year where Siteduzero became OpenClassroom

Here's the link for the website https://openclassrooms.com/

1. Reddit

The next one is Reddit, which is more like a forum than a website. You can write text post on it like you can on Facebook. Everyone will be able to see them. People will then up vote or down vote them. The post that has the most ups vote will reach the front page. However, Reddit has a lot of "SubReddit". That how they call it. A SubReddit is a more specific Reddit. In our case. We got the computer science SubReddit, which is Reddit about computer science. In this Reddit you can only speak about computer science. Also, SubReddit has rules like in computer science when somebody is asking something and he got his information, you can down vote him because his post don't have to stay anymore on the first page. This is very useful because you can ask question, get answer, move on. You can also help people, which is a very good thing when learning. It was developed by two roommates in University of Virginia, Steven Huffman and Alexis Ohanian in 2005.

3. Compsci

The last one, compsci which was created by Dan. I wasn't able to find his full name and I don't even know if this is his real name because Dan is the name that he uses on the forum. On this website you are able to speak about specific subject in computer science. As you can see if you go on the website. You are able to discuss programming language like C++ or Java. You can ask help in those domains. Like in Reddit, you could also help people. It is very good for students because I believe some teacher go on this website and it is Canadian !

Five Reasons to Enroll in Computer Science

There is a bunch of programs in college and I choose computer science mostly because I was always fascinated with technology and especially computer. I took the opportunity that I had to go in a Multimedia class when I was in highschool and I saw what I could do. It was very fun to me. However, I had fives more reasons to go in my program that I'm about to show to you.

Firstly,

You should join my program if you have any interest in computer because we learn how to program and how a computer actually work, like you learn how a computer communicate with other computer. How to build one and it is pretty funny if you have any interests in that kind of thing.

Secondly,

If, you want a job that could actually have a big impact in the near future or a job that you will be able to keep for a long time because technology is the future and it is always moving forward and you probably want to be part of that future. You probably know it, but technology is already everywhere. School is exchanging the blackboard for the whiteboard which you can interact with a computer and with some special tools.

Thirdly,

Computers are all around the world, you will probably be able to find a job in others location than the one you live in. You will be able to visit other places all around the world and still get paid while doing it !

Fourthly,

There is a high chance that you will find a job after finishing your study because people want and need people in that kind of study field because, as you know the boomer weren't born in technology and most kids these days are far better than them and most boomer are going to retire so this is a great opportunity for us to get a job.

Fifthly,

There are a lot of company that needs computer scientist and in different business. I'm pretty sure every company has to rely on a network system or some sort of computer and because of this, they need to hire computer scientist.

Thank you for reading my article and I hope I helped you to know if you wanted to be in computer science.
However, I hope that you had a good time reading this and have a good day !

About Me

Hi, I'm Steven Desroches from the college Montmorency and I study computer science at this place.
I am from Laval, a city in the province of Québec, in Canada. I went to Marcel Vaillencourt when I was a young school in primary school, it went very fast and the only thing I almost remember for sure is the fact that at one point I was playing an instrument in this school even if I hated it.

Then I went to Mont-de-La-Salle as my highschool which was very funny and interresting because
I went to the "Multimédia" class and it was very fun. You basicly had to do art on a computer.
The teacher was very good because it felt like he was one of us, a student.
But then he left to work at Maison Des Arts I think, the new teacher was very bad and
left her job she did a burnout by our fault. It was pretty funny though !

And now I am here, at Montmorency all by myself.
